Working with our many partners, Pioneer Valley Habitat for Humanity builds homes, hope and community in Hampshire and Franklin Counties.

"Habitat is like love in action." -Pioneer Valley Habitat family.

Since 1989, Pioneer Valley Habitat for Humanity has built 35 affordable homes for working low-income families in the Valley, providing permanent housing for twenty-two single mothers, two single fathers and eighty-four children. We have worked with thousands of local volunteers, from all backgrounds and skill levels, in the building of Habitat homes and community in the Pioneer Valley.

And we need your help.

Every day, lower income families are increasingly locked out of homeownership opportunities by market conditions in Western Massachusetts. Those earning below 50% of the area median income find it nearly impossible to find a simple, modest, decent affordable home to call their own. Pioneer Valley Habitat makes homeownership possible by selling a home to a family for the cost of construction, providing a long-term 0% mortgage, and providing volunteer mentors to assist the families with the challenges that come with home ownership.

The work of Habitat is not to build houses; it is to build futures. Pioneer Valley Habitat works with aspiring homeowners and community partners, volunteers and donors so that families realize dreams and benefits of homeownership. Volunteer mentors help with homeownership documents as well as demonstrating stability that this new stakeholder status yields. Great benefits are realized by the family and especially the children of Habitat homeowners who, often for the first time, feel safe in their home.

While the primary beneficiaries of Habitat homes are the families who build and own them, there are thousands of community volunteers from all backgrounds and of all skill levels who benefit from building a Habitat home together--who build careers based on work they do while working on Habitat homes.

A few facts:

  • A Pioneer Valley Habitat home is forever deeded as affordable housing, something harder and harder to come by in our community.
  • Habitat families help build their house. They must put in at least 250 hours of “sweat equity” building either their own home or another Habitat home or otherwise providing support to the work of Habitat.
  • Last year, Pioneer Valley Habitat trained and supervised over 500 volunteers from area schools, churches, businesses and civic organizations in home building.
  • The majority of PVHabitat homeowners are single mothers.
  • We have never had to foreclose on a PVHabitat home.
  • We can keep the cost of homes down because of generous donors like you.

Beyond financial support, our goal is to raise awareness of the work that we do and to make the case for increasing opportunities for low-income working families who have a strong desire to own their own homes. Be a part of creating permanent change for families in our community.

On behalf of the community of Habitat families and volunteers, Thank You.
